Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sequel reportedly coming in 2022

Infinity Ward’s last Call of Duty title was the 2019 reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Now, it appears that a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sequel is coming in 2022. According to Battlefield leakerTom Henderson, the 2022 Call of Duty will be a sequel to Modern Warfare, information corroborated byVGC.
Infinity Ward parent companyActivision-Blizzard is facing a lawsuit, alleging the company allowed systemic sexist workplace behavior and abuse. Some steps have been taken, with the removal of the game director onDiablo 4and other employees.
This 2022 game, codenamed Project Cortez, supposedly features a campaign that focuses on U.S. special forces taking on Columbian drug cartels. This codename appears to be a reference to the 1994 film Clear and Present Danger, which features Colonel Félix Cortez as a villain.
If this report is true, this shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Every studio in the Activision umbrella is currently working on the Call of Duty franchise to some extent. The 2021 entry in the annual franchise,Call of Duty: Vanguard, is being led by Sledgehammer Games, with Treyarch working on a Zombies mode, Raven Software on an update to Call of Duty: Warzone and additional support work being handled by studios like Activision Shanghai and Toys for Bob.
While Sledgehammer and Infinity Ward do share technology, Infinity Ward is the only team not directly working on Vanguard and will have a full three-year cycle to develop its new game. In ourpreview of Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer, we found that there are some interesting new modes but a lot of questions regarding the foundation of the game.
The easy choice
If you intend to play on Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, this is the version of the game to grab. You’ll want it to look and run as good as possible, which does mean it’ll be a bit more expensive.
