Microsoft has added a new feature to Cortana, the digital assistant can now translate from French, German, Italian and Spanish on Windows 10. You can directly ask Cortana to provide you with the translation or you can simply type the sentence you want it to translate.
This update follows the English release of the instant translation app from last September. The principles are the same, ask Cortana to translate for you and you get the answer right away. This is a very useful feature especially when you are travelling to a foreign country or you are talking to a foreigner and neither of you speaks the language of the other.
If the assistant does not understand the sentences you want it to translate, it will open a web page after performing a web search for it. This situation is more likely to occur when you utter the sentence since speech recognition technologies are extremely sensitive to outside noises and sounds.

The list of languages Cortana can translate into is, of course, limited and it includes: Bosnian,Bulgarian,Catalan, Chinese,Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Hindi,Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Klingon, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Maltese, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian,Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, Vietnamese and Welsh.
Microsoft is making efforts to deploy its translator software to a wide range of devices and platforms because it strongly believes in its mission:
Microsoft Translator’s mission is to break the language barrier by providing translation whenever and wherever you need it. In addition to being integrated into Cortana, you can also download the Translator app for Windows 10 to get translations from your webcam or to translate when you are not connected to the internet.
Microsoft Translator apps are also available for iPhone, Apple Watch, Android phones and is also integrated into other Microsoft products such as Office, Bing and Skype Translator.
