‘Cyberpunk’ and ‘Witcher’ dev CD Projekt hit with massive cyber attack

The developers of The Witcher series andCyberpunk 2077posted a noticeon Twitter today, publically acknowledging a massive cyberattack that has seen the entirety of its internal servers scraped and held for ransom.

CD Projekt says that there’s no reason to believe any customer data has been breached “to the best of their knowledge,” although investigations are ongoing. CD Projekt also seemed to indicate that its “partners” may be impacted by the breach. The hacker’s ransom note also contained threats to release sensitive documentation to the press, which supposedly contains information on sensitive areas like HR, finance, legal, and more.

CD Projekt has already confirmed that they intend to refuse to negotiate with the hackers and that they are working with the authorities to try and resolve the situation.

CD Projekt and its developer arm CD Projekt RED have fallen under some intense scrutiny in recent years over reports ofharsh working conditionsat the studio, alongsidemisleading the publicover the quality of the base Xbox One and PS4 versions of Cyberpunk 2077. There areeven class-action lawsuits taking place, and the Polish government was involved in investigating the development of the game. To say things are a bit of a mess at CD Projekt right now could be an understatement.
