Destiny 2 developer Bungie has just announced some major news for the game after recently breaking free from publisher Activision. Now in full control of the game’s destiny (no pun intended), the developer has announced the game’snew major expansion named Shadowkeep, as well as a free-to-play edition launching in September.

Destiny 2: New Light is the name of the free version of the game that will be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on September 17, and it will include “all of its foundational modes, activities, and rewards.” The PC version of the game will also move away from the Battle.net launcher to join Steam, a change that should be welcomed by most PC gamers.

Interestingly, Bungie is also dumping its marketing deal with Sony, which means that there will no longer be timed-exclusive content on the PlayStation 4 version of the game. Another blockbuster news isthe game’s upcoming release on Google Stadia, and Bungie will also launch a cross-save functionality this Fall that will allow players to play all of their Guardians on their platform of choice.

This cross-save feature will work between Xbox One, Steam, Google Stadia, and even the PlayStation 4 version of the game. According to a report fromKotaku, Sony agreed just yesterday to support cross-save on PS4, and it’s safe to assumethe former crossplay opponentprobably dodged another bullet by joining the party.
