Last month, Microsoft announced a series of“Xbox 20/20” monthly momentsto share some next-gen news ahead of the launch of the Xbox Series X later this year. For the May Xbox 20/20 update, Microsoft did an Inside Xbox live stream to reveal some trailers of upcoming games running on Xbox Series X, and the Xbox team has since admitted thatthe showcase didn’t exactly meet fans’ expectations.

With Microsoft promising monthly updates throughout the rest of the year, there has been some confusion about a potential Xbox digital event this month. Yesterday, Jeff Grub fromVentureBeatwrote that “The company was aiming to show off the long-rumored, more-affordable Xbox Lockhart around June 9. But it pushed those plans all the way to August — at least for now. Microsoft doesn’t want to go before Sony’s Thursday event.” ”

However, Xbox marketing exec quickly denied on Twitter yesterday that Microsoft had delayed this rumored June event to August. “We have not pushed anything back, our plan remains to have our next digital show in July and teams are working hard on that,” Greenberg tweeted.

Actually, Greenberg announced in a series of tweets on May 5 that there wouldn’t be an Inside Xbox digital event in June. “There will be news we are planning to revel/release, but not an Inside Xbox show next month, Greenberg said in a reply to a question about a June event. In anothertweet, the exec said that “June will be done a bit differently than an Inside Xbox show.”

While we should get some Xbox news this month, this will likely come in the form of a blog post on Xbox Wire. Microsoft still has a lot of things to discuss, including the availability of Project xCloud on Windows 10 PCs, or new Xbox Series X features that probably deserve a bit more attention, such asSmart Delivery.

Anyway, Microsoft better comes up with something substantial this month to make the wait before the July digital event more bearable. With Sony planning toreveal the first PlayStation 5 games on Thursday, June 11, the Japanese company has a big opportunity to claim back the next-gen gaming narrative before Microsoft can strike back next month with its first-party games showcase.
