Following user complaints, Microsoft rolled out a newupdate(KB4487345) aimed at fixing some of the issues triggered by KB4480970. More specifically, KB4487345 fixes thebugthat’s preventing users from accessing shares onWindows 7and Windows Server 2018 remotely.

This update resolves the issue where local users who are part of the local “Administrators“ group may not be able to remotely access shares onWindows 7 SP1and Windows Server 2008 R2 machines after installing the January 8th, 2019 security updates. This does not affect domain accounts in the local “Administrators” group.

If you go toWindows Updateand hit the ‘Check forupdates‘ button, you won’t find thisupdate. You can onlydownload it manuallyfrom the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

If you’re wondering whether or not you should download KB4487345, the answer is ‘Yes’. This hotfix is safe to download. There have been no issue reports after users installed it. This means that the download and install processes should go smoothly and you should not encounter anybugsafterwards.

Microsoft will release new hotfixes for KB4480970

Regarding the ‘Unrecognized Database Format’ errors on Microsoft Access triggered by the same problematic update, the company promised to deliver a hotfix early February. So, if you’re affected by this problem, you can use the workarounds provided by Microsoft onthis support page.

Of course, the quickest way to solve all the problems caused by KB4480970 is to simply uninstall theupdate.
