Hacker leaks source code for Xbox Series X’s AMD GPU

A hacker who claims to have stolen the source code for a couple of high-profile AMD GPUs is currently causing some trouble for the chipmaker. According to a report fromTorrentFreak(viaEngadget), the hacker claims to have test files for AMD’s Navi 10 and upcoming Navi 21 GPUs, as well as the “Arden” GPU that will power Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox Series X console.

AMD has already taken down some of the leaked data on GitHub, but the hacker is now asking for $100 million for not leaking the rest of the files online. In astatement published yesterday, AMD confirmed to have been contacted by the hacker back in December 2019, and after taking care of the previous leaks, the company apparently isn’t too worried about the rest of its stolen data that’s still in the hands of the hacker.

“While we are aware the perpetrator has additional files that have not been made public, we believe the stolen graphics IP is not core to the competitiveness or security of our graphics products. We are not aware of the perpetrator possessing any other AMD IP. We are working closely with law enforcement officials and other experts as a part of an ongoing criminal investigation,” the company said yesterday.
