Head of Microsoft’s Digital Transformation Group is leaving the company

According to a report fromZDNet, there is a shakeup inside of Microsoft’s enterprise operations, with the head of Microsoft’s Digital Transformation Group leaving the company. The shakeup involves James Phillips, who has been at Microsoft for ten years.

Apparently announced in an email sent out by Microsoft Executive Vice President Scott Guthrie, Phillips will be leaving his spot at Microsoft for an “external opportunity.” He was in the spot since March of 2021 when the group was first created. Products under the group included Dynamics 365, Power Platform, Azure AI Platform, and others.

Per ZDNet, there’s no indication that Phillips will be replaced, and the groups that he oversaw are instead being divided and “moved around.” The big one is that the Azure IoT and Edge engineering teams have been consolidated, but here’s what Mary Jo Foley is hearing.

Charles Lamanna will continue to lead the Business Applications & Platform (BAP) organization and join his C+AI leadership team, reporting directly to Guthrie. Eric Boyd will continue to lead the AI platform organization and join the C+AI leadership team, reporting directly to Guthrie. Rohan Kumar will continue to lead the Azure Data organization, join the C+AI leadership team and report directly to Guthrie.

In addition to the news about Phillips, since Microsoft’s deal with Nuance closed, there also is some news around this area. Microsoft is moving more of its own people to Nuance, and vice versa, rather than keeping it seperate. The Microsoft Health & Life Sciences engineering team will be moved to the Nuance R&D organization, under Nuance CEO Mark Benjamin. In addition, Nuance Enterprise’s business and product management moves under the control of Charles Lamanna, who heads the Business Applications & Platform (BAP) organization at Microsoft.
