Despite Skype taking up most of the air in a room regarding Microsoft’s video streaming solutions, the company’s other, more corporate alternative is gaining a host of new features that may eventually overshadow Skype’s overall efficacy.
Microsoft’s “intelligent” video streaming app Stream is offered as part of the Microsoft 365 bundle and enables users to “create, share, and discover videos as easily as Office documents.”
Announced at Ignite 2020,a rollout of new features to Streamis planned for the fourth quarter of the 2020 calendar year that include external and anonymous sharing, Microsoft Search integration, enhanced analytics, improved transcript quality and updated controls for security and compliance request.
Microsoft assures that folks making use of the “classic” Stream app, that there will be a transitional period where new features will be phased into Microsoft 365 while still supporting the older version.
With the self-imposed Q4 deadline quickly upon the company, users should expect to see previews of the new Stream features beginning in the coming weeks.
