Apparently, Intel and MediaTek are becoming partners to bring 5G technology to new Dell and HP PCs.As noted in a post by Windows Central, new Windows 10 PCs will be introduced with built-in 5G support that should be available starting in 2021. Intel executive vice president and general manager of the Client Computing Group, Gregory Bryant explains why the move to 5G is important.
“5G is poised to unleash a new level of computing and connectivity that will transform the way we interact with the world. Intel’s partnership with MediaTek brings together industry leaders with deep engineering, system integration, and connectivity expertise to deliver 5G experiences on the next generation of the world’s best PCs.”
Currently, MediaTek has existing technology that uses 5G technology in the automotive industry, including on mobile devices. MediaTek’s partnership with Intel will inject MediaTek’s 5G mobile technology into Intel’s firm grasp on the consumer and enterprise PC market. For now, we will have to wait until 2021 before we see if internet service providers can expand upon 5G’s current coverage footprint.
