Plenty of users that have installed theWindows 10version 1909 have reported that ever since they got theupdate, they have been havingFile Explorerissues. Thisupdatecontaineda host of other issuesthat were more or less fixed along the way.

As for thebugitself, every time a user tried using the search bar, it would freeze entirely. Additionally, users cannot right-click the search box, which is necessary for when they try pasting whatever is on the clipboard.

It is suspected that thisbughas something to do with a preview feature introduced in the lastupdate.

For those of you that don’t know, this new feature allowed suggestions to appear in the search box as you would type, similar to Google’s suggestions.

Thus, a bad implementation of this new feature lead to the appearance of thisbug.

Microsoft has already released a series of fixes for thesebugs, and those that are part of the Windows Insider programs have already begun testing them out.

As far as the world-wide release goes, we should expect theseupdatesto hit live somewhere in mid-January.

Microsoftstatedin the release notes ofWindows 10build19013that:

We fixed an issue where you could get into a state where it wasn’t possible to set focus toFile Explorer’s search box in order to type your query

Additionally, they went on andaddedin the release note forWindows 10build 19536 that:

We’ve updated the newFile Explorersearch experience to enable you to remove previous searches via an option if you right click the entry in the dropdown. We fixed an issue resulting in the first character of your query getting dropped when “automatically type into the search box”File Explorersetting was enabled,

Thus, if you too are having these issues, you won’t have to wait any longer for a fix. Additionally, you can get these fixes sooner by enrolling in the Windows Insider’sFast Ring.
