Microsoft “aware” of leaked Outlook for Windows, warns against using it & to wait for beta

Microsoft’supcoming “One Outlook” clientrecently leaked online, and many people have already used the app, adding work or school Microsoft 365 accounts to it. However, it turns out that the IT admins that have to deal with the security issues of users emailing with an unfinished app aren’t exactly pleased with this. That’s why Microsofthas issued a warningin the Microsoft 365 admin message center catered around the new Outlook for Windows (via Tero Alhonen/ Twitter.)

Titled MC376710, Microsoft’s warning message mentions that some users might have accessed an unsupported early version of the new Outlook for Windows. The message goes on to mention that this early version is “missing some of the features” and enhancements that will be coming later in the Beta Channel.

Microsoft even goes as far as to encourage customers to wait for a beta version to be released, mentioning timeframe for a specific release date. “We expect to provide more news in the coming weeks about our Beta release,” mentions the company.

In the meantime, Microsoft is providing some instructions on what IT admins can do to block users from connecting Microsoft 365 accounts with the leaked app. It involves preventing syncing, but not preventing downloads. This can be done for either a single user or the entire organization.

All that said, it definitely seems as though a more polished version of the One Outlook app could be on the way soon. But, for now, it might be best to avoid using the app and causing your IT admin headaches. With Build 2022 now just a couple of weeks away, we won’t be surprised if we hear more about the app then or get an official beta client
