Microsoft Delaying Retirement of MCSD, MCSA and MCSE Certifications

After making the announcement that Microsoft was planning to retire several of their very popular certifications on June 30 of this year,Microsoft has confirmedthat the planned retirement of their Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD), Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) and Microsoft Certified Solutions Associated (MCSA) certifications were being put on hold.

With the impact of Covid-19, many potential test-takers have been unable to take their exams as test centers are closed across the country. In response to that, Microsoft, alongside their exam delivery partner Pearson VUE, said in today’s announcement that not only were they extending the availability of the certifications until January 31, 2021, but they are also proactively making some program changes and would be waiving all exam rescheduling and cancellation fees if the request is made at least 24-hours before the appointment, and automatically extending existing role-based certification expiration dates by another six months.

Pearson VUE is also working to increase the capacity for online proctoring in an attempt to expand its online testing capacity. Potential test-takers can simply check current availability onPearson’s website. Microsoft also indicated that they are transitioning in-person instructor-led courses to virtual instruction and virtual training through their Microsoft Learning website.

While the change in position seems obvious given the current circumstances, it’s great to see that Microsoft is responding to the current situation and taking care of their IT Professionals over the short-term as they continue to push everyone towards the cloud.
