Microsoft has quietly started testing a new notifications experience for Edge Progressive Web Apps (PWAs). Last week, Windows Insider MVP Florian B spotted the improved notification banner on one of his PCs running the Microsoft Edge Canary builds, and the company is apparently doing some A/B testing with this new design.
The existing notification banner for installed PWAs shows that all notifications are coming from Microsoft Edge. However, that might change soon, as the Edge Insider team is updating the notification banner to better highlight the name of web apps. The new PWA notifications are more compact, with the name of the progressive web apps now appearing in the title bar (as shown below).
Hey@MasterDevwi, on some devices with edge canary, PWA notifications look like this.On other devices, it’s the classic Edge notification. Is this A/B testing or did i miss a flag somewhere ?pic.twitter.com/SLQawfkuCS

This feature is currently available in preview for select Edge Insiders, and it is expected to begin rolling out to the Stable channel in September. “Beginning with Microsoft Edge version 94, notifications from progressive web applications PWAs will no longer show as coming from Microsoft Edge, but rather will display the name of the web app instead,” the company explained on theMicrosoft 365 roadmap.
Overall, these improvements should be a welcome addition for those who use PWAs on Windows 10. This change should make it easier for users to keep track of their emails, messages, and more.
