Afterfixing three separate issues on July 12, Microsoft is now putting yet another block in place for some consumers hoping to upgrade to the Windows 10 May 2019 Update. This time, it is owners of Surface Book 2 13″ and 15″ models with Nvidia GPUs who are impacted (via Windows Central.)

The issue is well documented onMicrosoft’s support page, which explains that after updating to the May 2019 Update, certain apps, and games on the Surface Book 2 that need the power of the Nvidia GPU might close or fail to open. The dedicated GPU might also occasionally disappear from device manager. As a result, the company is placing what it calls a “compatibility hold” on Surface Book 2 devices with Nvidia dGPUs until the issue is resolved.

If you happened to have already upgraded to the Windows 10 May 2019 Update and are experiencing issues with the dedicated GPU on your Surface Book 2, Microsoft has a workaround: The company recommends to open the device manager, and restart the Nvidia GPU, or select the “Scan for hardware changes” button in the Action menu or on the toolbar.

It is not recommended that you manually update to the Windows 10 May 2019 Update with the “Update now” button or the Media Creation Tool until the issue has been fixed. No word from Microsoft yet on how long it will take for this issue to be resolved, but the company is working on a resolution and says it will “provide an update in an upcoming release.”
