Microsoft Teams is will soon receive a new update that will allow users to live-stream large meetings on other platforms through RTMP. The news comes from a recent update to theMicrosoft 365 roadmap, which suggests that RTMP streaming support is coming to Teams in July 2021.

For those unfamiliar, theReal-Time Messaging Protocol(RTMP) is a TCP-based protocol for audio, video, and data streaming over the internet. Live streaming option has been available on Zoom and Webex for a while now, and it looks like the Redmond gaint is finally planning to bring it to the Teams collaboration service.

Once enabled, this feature will let hosts leverage RTMP to broadcast their meetings to a wider audience on social media platforms such as YouTube and Twitch. “Enables support for your users to stream their Teams meetings to large audiences through RTMP, including endpoints outside your organization,” the company explained on the Microsoft 365 roadmap.

The addition of RTMP streaming support should help to make large meetings and webinars more engaging than ever before. The Microsoft 365 roadmap listing indicates that this capability will be added to meetings, but there is no word on whether it will be available for Live Events as well. The company is alsoadding an automatic recording optionfor Teams meetings. This update is only coming towards the end of this year, though.
