Microsoft is finally planning to address issues with the flipped webcam images in Teams Meetings. According to a recentcomment made on the Microsoft Teams UserVoicepage, the company is close to finalizing a fix, and it plans to roll it out to users in the near future.
“Thank you for your continued feedback, the team is currently planning for this work. We will share an update as soon as one is available. Note: Your meeting attendees receive a non-mirrored video including the image of you and any text, whiteboards, etc. The image and video in your Call Monitor screen is shown to you only, as if you were looking in a mirror,” said Alex from the Microsoft Teams engineering team.
Interestingly, the company noted that the app only mirrors the video in the preview shown to the presenter and the other meeting participants see the unmirrored view. However, many users have been complaining on Microsoft’sUserVoiceandTech Communityforums about the webcam mirroring bug, and apparently, it affects some third-party cameras and older Windows PCs. “Teams has issues with some Logitech webcams (mine is a BRIO) where video get flipped randomly and the experience is not consistent. So the ability to flip video is also to deal with issues like this,” a comment on the UserVoice post reads.
As of today, Microsoft Teams doesn’t provide any built-in option to reverse the mirroring effect during meetings, and some people have been using third-party programs to reset their cameras to the normal position. Fortunately, Microsoft is aware of these flipped webcam images issue, and it’s planning to deliver a fix soon. Zoom and Skype for Business already have a toggle button to mirror everything that is broadcast from the webcam.
The mirror camera effect is one of the most annoying problems in Microsoft Teams, and almost 4,000 people have upvoted this post on the UserVoice forum. Unfortunately, the software gaint has not specified a timeline for the update rollout, so it could be a while before it makes its way to the desktop version of Teams.
