Microsoft is rolling out a new feature for Word for Web that should make it possible for the users to embed interactive web content within documents. In a recenttweet, Microsoft EDU Product Manager Mike Tholfsen announced the rollout of the new feature worldwide.

The new addition, called Word Embed, brings support for embedding interactive web content within the Microsoft Word web client. Just like OneNote, users will be able to embed videos, slides, and more from a wide range of popular platforms, including YouTube, Microsoft Streams, SlideShare, and Vimeo.

For example, to embed a YouTube video, a user could paste the URL into a Word document. If the URL supported is by this feature, the web app should automatically add the corresponding web content in the document.

The new experience makes it easier for the users to play the embedded content right from the document using controls such as play, pause, and more. It also provides the opportunity to immensely reduce the time required to separately open attached links in Microsoft Word, especially for users who have multiple files embedded in a single document.

Furthermore, Mike Tholfsen confirmed in afollow-up tweetthat the feature will come to the iPad app and the desktop version of Word in 2021. The number of supported sources is growing, and we invite you to addthis pageto your bookmarks.
