Everyone that loves interactive apps is probably familiar withWindows 10‘s very own Cortana. This voice assistant has been with users ever since the first version ofWindows 10, acting asMicrosoft‘s version of Alexa or Google Assistant.

It received numerous updates throughout the years, some ore or less successful, but it seems that things are about to change.

In a recentpost,Microsoftstated that they are planning to turn Cortana into a productivity assistant forOffice 365:

The upcoming update toWindows 10will include access to a new Cortana experience with an emphasis on productivity, helping you quickly find the information you want acrossMicrosoft365. The new Cortana experience inWindows 10features a chat-based UI that gives you the ability to interact with Cortana using your voice or the keyboard.

As part of the new revamp brought toMicrosoft‘s voice assistant, some features that aren’t very work-focused will be dropped.

For example,Microsoftmentioned that some consumer skills including music, connected home and third-party skills will no longer be available in the updated Cortana feature inWindows 10.

The end-goal for these changes is to finally transform Cortana into a full-fledged work assistant that will focus more on productivity, helping you quickly find the information you want acrossMicrosoft365.

Cortana will gain some new skills

Of course, Cortana is also getting some new ones as well. New versions will allow you to type or speak out requests to find people or files, or quickly create or queue up emails.

You can also use it to check out yout calendar, set a reminder, or add entries to your lists inMicrosoftTo Do. With these changes,Microsofthopes that work productivity will increase while making it a bit more interactive and engaging.

The main reason behind these changes is most likelyMicrosoft‘s plan toreplace Cortana as the default voice assistantin Windows 10x.

Given how something newer would replace it, the only logical choices would have been to either give Cortana a new purpose or remove it altogether. However, the program is still quite popular among Windows users, and that is probably whyMicrosoftdidn’t choose the latter.
