NVIDIA dishes on Arm acquisition delays, expects supply shortages in 2022

NVIDIA has had a lot to juggle in recent memory. First and foremost, it has to deal with the fact that its GPUs are in white-hot demand and, amidst the global semiconductor shortage, getting enough cards out to consumers has been impossible. And beyond triaging efforts there, NVIDIA also has to handle its acquisition of Arm, which is being held up at every possible juncture, to the point where the company is finally publicly commenting on the deal’s status.
In its 2022 quarter two earnings call, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang gave an update on supply issues concerning his company’s products, including hard-to-findbest graphics cardslike theRTX 3060 Ti. “We have enough supply to meet our second-half company growth plans and next year, we expect to be able to achieve our Company’s growth plans for next year,” he said (viaSeekingAlpha). “Meanwhile, we’re happening, and so I think the — I would expect that we will see a supply-constrained environment for the vast majority of next year is my guess at the moment.”
As for the Arm situation, in a discussion withThe Financial Times, Huang stated what was already public knowledge thanks to a multitude of reports and credible rumors. “Our discussions with regulators are taking longer than initially thought, so it’s pushing out the timetable,” he said. He could be referring to a number of longer-than-expected regulator discussions, given thatBrussels, theUK, andChinaare all standing in the way of the deal moving forward. Huang’s public stance is that he’s confident things will work out.
