Samsung Galaxy S24 battery: here’s what you need to know

TheSamsung Galaxy S24line has arrived, comprising the standard model,Galaxy S24 PlusandGalaxy S24 Ultra. All three phones were revealed atSamsung Galaxy Unpacked, and all come with a host of new features and upgraded chips.

A less compelling – but still very important – part of these phones are their batteries and potential battery life. There are some tweaks here for the fist two Galaxy S24 phones, while we also think the Galaxy S24 Ultra could get a little more out of its battery pack than its predecessor.

So read on for everything you need to know about theSamsungGalaxy S24 battery.

Samsung Galaxy S24 battery sizes for all models

Here’s a rundown of the battery sizes for the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus and Galaxy S24 Ultra, along with their charging specs.

Samsung Galaxy S24 battery upgrades analyzed

Both the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24 Plus have received a bump in battery capacity by 100mAh and 200mAh respectively, while the Galaxy S24 Ultra has stuck with the 5,000mAh battery previously found in theGalaxy S23 Ultra.

At the time of writing, Samsung has yet to provide any detailed battery life times, only noting that all three phones have longer-lasting batteries and will have an ‘all-day’ capacity.

We’ve not finished running the new mobiles through our detailed reviews process yet, but we do have some thoughts about how they might fare. And the first thing we’ll say is that… it’s complicated.

As you’ll see in our guides to the SamsungGalaxy S24 specsandSamsung Galaxy S24 Ultra specs, all three models have new chips. That usually makes a phone more power efficient, but things may not be so simple here. For starters, they’re all packed with onboard AI features, which could be more power-hungry than the less-smart features found in their predecessors.

What’s more, the Galaxy S24 Plus' display has had a bump up from FHD+ to QHD+, and that could equal faster battery drain. Then again, the display can now throttle down from 120Hz to a mere 1Hz, which could make it more efficient than the screen on theGalaxy S23 Plus. As we said, it’s complicated.

As we said in ourSamsung Galaxy S23 review, the older phone delivered 10 hours and 27 minutes in our testing. In ourGalaxy S23 Plus review, meanwhile, we noted that the phone could last nearly two days in general day-to-day use. And in ourGalaxy S23 Ultra review, we saw the phone deliver a day and a half in normal usage.

So based on all of the above, we’d expect the Galaxy S24 phones to match this level of battery life or exceed it, though not by much.
