Skypereleased abrand-new version for Skypefor web that enables the users to makeSkypecalls directly from theirbrowsers. The twist in the story is that the webapplicationhas dropped support for Linux and ChromeOS.
Last yearSkypefor web has introduced some new and exciting features such asSkype-to-Skype call recording, high-definition video calling, and a notifications panel.
Furthermore, it allows the users to search for any specific message with in the a conversation. In this way you can save a lot of time and effort that is required to scroll through all of your chat history.
Skypefor Web offers all the features that you will currently find in the desktopapplication. It even has the same look and feel, and you can perform all these activities using the latest version:
Limitations for some users
Back in 2015, whenSkypewas experimenting with its Web version it was supporting theLinuxand ChromeOS. It was available for both the platforms after its launch on the two big platforms macOS and Windows.
It looks like the webapplicationwas found to be stable enough on macOS and Windows so it dropped the support for the other two smaller platforms.
Users running MacOS 10.12 or higher and Windows operating system along with Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome can only enjoy the latest features.
It’s clear that, if you are using aLinuxsystem or aChromebook, you won’t be able to access the new version ofSkypefor Web.
Moreover, the tool does not support the Firefox browser and mobile devices. It clearly means that you might have to face “Browsernot supported” message if you are using any unsupportedbrowser.
Most of the loyalSkypeusers found that to be annoying. They still had to use the desktopapplicationbecause of the limitations.
It’s still unclear that when the webapplicationwill be launched for the unsupported platform. But users still hope that will happen soon.
