As Microsoft is now gearing up tokick off its Project xCloud public trial next month, the console streaming feature that the company announced back at E3 2019 should soon be available for some Xbox Insiders. If you’re in the US or UK, the network test for console streaming is now live in the latest Xbox One preview builds forPreview AlphaandSkip Ahead Insiders.
“Console Streaming is our new Xbox One platform feature that lets you stream installed Xbox One games (including Xbox Game Pass titles) to your phone or tablet directly from the Xbox One you already own. Those with consoles in Alpha and Alpha Skip Ahead Ring in the US and UK can now test their home network, controller and console settings to get ready for the preview,” explained Xbox Insider Team Lead Brad Rossetti.
To use this feature, though, you’ll need to make sure that your home Internet connection passes the test, and ideally that means meeting the following criteria:
Your console will also be set to Instant-on to allow your phone or tablet to access it remotely, and you’ll also need to have an Xbox Wireless Controller with Bluetooth with the latest firmware installed. Once you’ve installed the latest 1911 or 2004 preview builds for Xbox One, the Xbox Console Streaming (Preview) readiness test will be available in Settings -> Network settings -> Test console streaming.
“We’re looking forward to sharing more about Console Streaming (Preview) and what to expect in the coming weeks,” Rossetti said. It’s still not clear when the feature will be available for Xbox Insiders and the general public, but its availability in the latest 1911 preview build suggests that it could be November at the earliest.
Update 9:20AM EST: We initially wrote that console streaming was live for select Xbox Insiders, while it’s just the network test for it that is now available. We’ve updated the post to reflect that, and we apologize for the error.
