Key notes
As expected for some time now, Microsoftannouncedyesterday that they have started rolling out theWindows10 October 2020 update (also known as version 20H2 or v2009) for all users.
Until now, the updates have been available only for the users in the Insider program.
Many of these updatesare requested features from you to help make your experience onWindowseven better, as the announcement puts it.
The unrolling process will most probably take several weeks to ensure a smooth update for everybody.
What’s new in Windows 10 20H2?
1. Shortcuts and Price comparison feature in Edge
Microsoft’s Edgewill come as the default browser with this latest update. Until now,Windows10 included a legacy version that would have been updated further on.
New features or improvements to thisbrowserwill be released every 6 weeks from now on.
To add to the user experience, you will be able to switch between browser tabs and running tasks at the same time, using the Alt + Tab shortcut. It’s the same shortcut now used to navigate only between desktop apps and programs that you’re currently using.
In preparation for the holiday season, Microsoft encourages the use of the handy Collections feature to which a Price comparison was added, for easier decision-making when shopping online.
2. New Start and Taskbar design
Once you install theWindows20H2 version, you’ll notice a slight change in the color design of theStart menu, to enhance the icons and improve visibility in both light and dark mode.
Similarly, the Taskbar will be more customizable, to appeal to the users’ needs.
3. Increased security for companies
The 20H2 update will bring stronger app protection for companies only. Namely, the Windows Defender Application Guard will secure against possible external attacks not just websites opened in Edge, but also the Office suite apps.
4. Custom display refresh rate
Starting version 20H2, users can change the refresh rate of their displays, using the Advanced display setings.
Keep in mind that the quicker an image refreshes on the screen, the better the viewing experience. A slower refresh rate might cause flickering, eye strain, and headaches.
