Key notes
MicrosoftreleasedWindows 1020H2 Build 19042.421 to the Beta Channel.
Remember the new Start menu with theme-aware tiles that came with build 20161 in the Dev Channel? The feature (along with Alt + Tab transition between apps and sites in Edge, programmable Taskbar, and more) has now moved to the nextWindows 10beta testing phase.
New Windows 10 20H2 build 19042.421 features
1. New Windows 10 Start menu
The newWindows 1020H2 build 19042.421 introduces new features like theme-aware tiles in the Start menu. The redesigned interface creates a perfect home for Fluent Design icons for Microsoft Office applications and Edge.
2. Programmable Taskbar
The personalized Taskbar that came with build 20161 is now available toinsidersin the Beta Channel.
3. Pinned sites in Edge
Interestingly, this build includes an update for Edge that makes it easier to access multiple tabs for your Taskbar-pinned sites.
At the time of writing this, the pinned site update is also available to Dev Channel insiders, courtesy ofbuild 20175. It doesn’t come as a surprise since the three Windows code testing channels are no longer about what gets where first.
Instead, the distinction is in the quality and stability of the code right now. So you may expect Beta Channel testers to have a smoother experience than their Dev Channel counterparts with any of these Windows 10 changes.
4. Device management
There’s a change in the modern device management (MDM) policy affecting Local Users and Groups. As a system admin, you can now make granular modifications to a local group.
6. Multi-tab transition in Edge with Alt + Tab
In addition, build 19042.421 brings the ability to quickly transition between apps and multiple open tabs in Edge by pressing Alt + Tab keys.
5. Other updates
Other Windows 10 feature updates currently live in the Beta Channel involve notification toasts, Settings page, and 2-in-1 tablet experiences. You can read all about them in ourbuild 20161 article.
