Microsoft has just announced the release of theWindows 10 Preview build 20226for Insiders in the Dev Channel. This minor update introduces a single new feature, which is Storage health monitoring to protect user data.
“This feature is designed to detect hardware abnormalities for NVMe SSDs and notify users with enough time to act,” the Windows Insider team explained. After installing this build, the OS will now send notifications when a drive failure could be imminent, and clicking on the pop up will allow Insiders to back up their data.
In case of a drive failure, the Storage settings page (Settings -> System -> Storage -> Manage disks and volumes -> Properties) will also provide additional details for the affected drive, including estimated remaining life.
In addition to this new feature, this new build will also disable theme syncing for some users, and fix some issues affecting the Settings app, WSL2, File Explorer, Focus Assist, and more. You can find the full list of changes, bug fixes, and known issues in the build 20226 below:

The Windows Insider team released this new build a bit earlier than usual today, but that’s to get prepared for the Windows Insider Anniversary webcast that will kick att at 10 AM PDT onTwitch. That’s right, the Windows Insider program kicked off six years ago, and Windows 10 has definitely evolved a lot since the release of the first-ever Insider build.
