If you cannot disableWindows 10S Mode, don’t panic. There is nothing wrong with your computer, this is just another technical issue on Microsoft’s end.

Thousands of users cannot switch out of Windows 10 S mode

The issues started to affect a large number of users on January 19 and the big M has yet to fix it. This is how one userdescribesthis issue:

Just got a windows surface laptop refurbished. HasWindows 10s. Have tried all the options to switch out and still no luck.Microsoft store lets me push the GET button but nothing happens. Trying anything around the command prompt is blocked because of S mode. Microsoft store is latest version. All windows and store update done.

However, the goodnewsis that the companyofficially acknowledged the problemand confirmed its engineers are working on a fix.

We are aware of the reports of people not being able to switch out of S mode right now. Please wait for a day or two and the issue would be hopefully resolved. Appreciate your patience.

Although the OP hasn’t been able to fix this issue by applying the latest updates, some users were luckier. After they contacted Microsoft Support and the support engineers installed the latest updates on their computers, the issue was quickly solved.

I worked with MS Technical Support today and they resolved this issue for me by applying Windows updates to my computer.

So, if you haven’t updated your computer in a while, try installing the latest updates and this quick workaround might solve your Windows S Mode issue.

It seems thisWindows 10S Mode issue is arecurrent problemfor Microsoft. As a quick reminder, thisbugaffected many users in August as well.

We’ll update this post as soon as new information is available.
