When Microsoft realized that some devices weren’t ready for Windows 10 2004, it put them on acompatibility hold. It usually does that to preserve the user experience.
However, avoiding a Microsoft compatibility hold doesn’t always guarantee that a machine will have no compatibility issues with the Windows 10 May 2020 Update. That’s the hard fact that some users have come to accept after the OS causedaudio issueswith their PCs.
Windows 10 2004 sound issues
Recently on the Microsoft Answers forum, a userreportedthat they kept losing their Windows 10 2004 PC audio. It seems that they’re using NVDIA and Sony audio devices, both of which tend to disappear from the device manager list.
I have a sony x800 with nvidia 1080ti. For some reason, since going to 2004 version of win 10, i keep losing the sound device in the listing. The only way to get it to come back is to pull the video cable and put it back in.
Windows 10 2004 audio complications date back to the OS’ prerelease days. A couple of months ago, a Windows insiderclaimedon Reddit that their system lost sound after updating to a beta version of Windows 10 2004.
Another user on the Answers forumlaments:
My audio is still not working after the recent Windows 10 version 2004 update. It causes the system to auto lockdown after initial booting and the audio functions are now totally lost.
Here’s yet another recent May 2020 Update audioconcern:
After the update, it no longer finds the Realteksound card, as if it is not connected at all.
But the machines in question should be compatible with Windows 10 version 2004, which is why Microsoft offered them the OS in the first place.
The good news is that some of the affected users resolved the issues aftertroubleshooting their audio device. Updatingsound carddriversalso seems to work for others.
