Microsoft’s effort to convince users to upgrade to Windows 10, whether willingly or forcefully, have paid off. In just one year, from November 2015 to November 2016, Windows 7 lost almost 10% of its market share in favor of the company’s latest OS.

According to the data available onNetMarketShare’s website, back in November 2015Windows 7had a market share of 56.11%, compared to November 2016 when it had a total market share of 47.17%.

This is surprising if you consider the strong upgrade opposition that Windows 10 has encountered. Many Windows 7 users saidthey wouldn’t upgrade their OSbecause they believed Windows 10 was not stable enough. However, judging by this significant market share drop, it appears that Windows 7 users are abandoning the ship.

It seems that Microsoft manages to convince more and more users to upgrade their OS with everynew Windows versionit releases. It’s not too far-fetched to say that the secret weapon behind Windows 10’s success is patience. In November 2015, Windows 10 had a weak 9% market share, while in November 2016 it reached an impressive 23.72%.

Of course, Windows 7 is not the only victim of Windows 10. Another very popular Windows OS version,Windows XPhas lost a significant market share percentage over the course of the last year.Windows XPhad a 10.59% market share in November 2015, compared to the 8.63% market share it reached last month.

Judging by these numbers, Windows 7 is not the new Windows XP, aswe predicted a while ago. Windows 7 users are indeed more susceptible to change, while Windows XP userscling to their good old reliable OS.

Microsoft will release a new Windows 10 edition sometime in early 2017. Judging by the current Windows 10 adoption trend, it appears that the Windows 10 Creators Update will boost the popularity of Microsoft’s latest OS. After all, Microsoft said that Windows 10 is on track to beat Windows 7 within a year.
