The iconic Microsoft Solitaire video game wasfirst released for free on Windows computersback in 1990 on May 22nd which means that the title will be turning 30 next month.
This milestone hasn’t gone unnoticed by Microsoft who is planning a variety of in-game events for those playing the modern version, Microsoft Solitaire Collection. Leading up to the big day, players will be able to earn extra XP and unlock special themed decks and card backs.
The official Microsoft Casual Games YouTube channel has also uploaded several videos featuring some of the game’s biggest fans explaining why they love the game so much. You can watch the videos here.
Microsoft Solitaire became one of the most-played video game in the 90s and 2000s due to it coming pre-installed with all new versions of the Windows operating system. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone who’s never played it.
The game was revamped as Microsoft Solitaire Collection in 2012 for Windows 8 which evolved further with a Windows 10 release in 2015 andiOS and Android versions in 2016. The app wasalso available on Windows phone.
Microsoft Solitaire Collection features all of the basic functionality from Microsoft Solitaire but boasts better graphics, online leaderboards, more game modes, and support for Microsoft’s Xbox Live online service whichenables the unlocking of Xbox Achievements, Xbox friends, and cloud saves between different platforms.
